57 students from 24 tribes earned certificates at the California Tribal College’s fourth weeklong Certificate Program in Tribal Leadership and Governance. Held in May at the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation tribal offices in Brooks, California, students took part in classes in California Indian history, tribal governance, federal Indian law, and tribal sovereignty.
Combined, 215 students from 60 tribes have earned certificates since the California Tribal College began offering the programs. Participants have included tribal chairpersons and leaders, elders and youth, and tribal employees. Several California Highway Patrol officers who work regularly with tribes have also taken part.
